MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – Meridian Mayor Percy Bland has released a statement following Wednesday night’s State of the Community Forum on crime and public safety.
His statement is included below in full:
“Last night’s Public Safety State of the Community forum was another powerful reminder of what we can accomplish when we come together. Chief Malachi Sanders and the Meridian Police Department are setting a strong example of community policing in action — working side by side with residents to protect every neighborhood in our city.
I am proud of the renewed emphasis we are placing on public safety, not only through stronger enforcement but also through building trust and relationships. The teamwork we see within our police department is spreading throughout every part of our city government. From public works to community development, our administration is working as one team — serving every citizen with commitment, compassion, and accountability.
To our friends at Freedom Rock Church and Pastor LaBaron Hedgeman, thank you for graciously hosting this event. You are difference makers!
Meridian is moving forward, safer and stronger, because of the shared dedication of our officers, our city employees, and our engaged citizens. Together, we are building a city where every neighborhood thrives.”
–Mayor Percy Bland
The forum, held at Freedom Rock Church, brought residents together for a discussion on public safety issues, including gang violence, weapons, youth engagement, women’s empowerment and new approaches to fighting crime.
Meridian Police Chief Malachi Sanders addressed the community, with Bishop LaBaron Hedgemon serving as facilitator.
Local pastors, community leaders and Mayor Bland also took part in the event, which ran from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and included prize giveaways.
