MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) -A brush fire broke out alongside the westbound lanes of I-20 just after 11 a.m. today.
Meridian Fire Department and Russell Volunteer Fire and Rescue responded to the call as winds stoked the fire toward Dee’s Road, around mile marker 162.
As traffic backed up on the interstate with low visibility due to smoke, first responders had the fire contained to the roadside by noon.
Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department and Toomsuba VFD also responded.
