STATEMENT FROM MAYOR PERCY BLAND
OCTOBER 28, 2025
City of Meridian honors local heroes on National First Responders Day
The city of Meridian joins communities across the nation in recognizing National First
Responders Day – a day set aside to honor the men and women who dedicate their
lives to protecting and serving others.
Mayor Percy Bland expressed deep appreciation for Meridian’s first responders,
including members of the Meridian Police Department, Meridian Fire Department, and
Public Safety teams who work tirelessly to keep our community safe.
“Every day, these men and women step forward when others step back,” Mayor Bland
said. “Their courage, professionalism, and commitment make our city stronger and
safer. We are proud of their service and grateful for the difference that they make in
every neighborhood – every hour, every day.”
The city also recognizes the leadership of Chief Malachi Sanders and Chief Michael
Evans, as well as Public Safety Director Greg Morgan. These teams respond to
emergencies, prevent crime, and protect lives and property through their steadfast
service and dedication.
From responding to calls in the middle of the night to standing on the frontline during
times of crisis, Meridian’s first responders exemplify the city's ongoing mission to serve
with integrity and compassion.
As the nation pauses to reflect on the sacrifices of first responders, the city of Meridian
proudly stands behind those who continue to answer the call -every shift, every
challenge, every day.
