MERIDIAN, Miss. (Queen City Newsfeed) – Meridian Main Street received two Mississippi Main Street Awards during the Mississippi Main Street annual luncheon, earning recognition for Outstanding Creative Fundraising and Outstanding Public Arts Project.
PuttPutt Palooza was named the winner in the Outstanding Creative Fundraising category.
The event transformed a city block on Main Street into a nine-hole miniature golf course. Organized by Downtown Meridian, PuttPutt Palooza featured 40 teams and raised more than $5,000 for downtown programming. The event was created as a community-focused fundraiser and reimagined the traditional golf tournament format by bringing mini-golf directly to downtown Meridian.
The 26th Avenue Tunnel Mural received the award for Outstanding Public Arts Project.
Led by the Meridian Museum Art Collective, the project transformed the 26th Avenue tunnel into a public art installation. Funding for the mural was provided by the Meridian City Council and Visit Meridian. The project prioritized Mississippi artists and was designed to reflect the community’s heritage.
The two awards recognize projects that contributed to downtown revitalization efforts in Meridian.
