3-year-old shot in Waynesboro, investigation underway

WAYNESBORO – An investigation is underway after a 3-year-old child shot himself Monday in Waynesboro, according to WDAM.

Shortly after noon, officers with the Waynesboro Police Department responded to the parking lot of an animal clinic on Spring Street.

Police found the child suffering from a gunshot wound, WDAM reported.

Waynesboro Police Chief Brian Everett told WDAM the child was in stable condition and was being flown to a hospital in Mobile.

Everett said the child’s primary caretaker had stepped out of the vehicle when the shooting happened. Another infant was also in the vehicle at the time.

Police are looking for witnesses as the investigation continues.
