NEWTON – According to the Newton Police Department, Newton County E-911 dispatched officers around 6 p.m. June 20 to a car wash on Frontage Road for a report of shots fired.
When officers arrived, they found multiple shell casings and launched an investigation.
Police said surveillance footage from nearby businesses and community tips helped investigators identify Jamie T. Moore Jr. as a person of interest.
The department later received a tip that Moore was at a residence outside the city limits.
Newton police contacted the Newton County Sheriff’s Department, and the sheriff’s department’s Special Response Team was activated to conduct a warrant at the residence.
Moore was apprehended without incident around 1 a.m., police said.
The investigation remains active.
Newton Police Chief McKenzie Patrick thanked the community and the Newton County Sheriff’s Department for their assistance.
“The quick responses from everyone involved allowed us to get to this point in our investigation in less than 8 hours,” Patrick said. “We will not tolerate this behavior and criminal activity in our city and we are prepared to use all of the tools at our disposal to do so.”
