MERIDIAN, Miss. — The LOVE’S Kitchen Board of Directors has released a statement remembering longtime Executive Director Fannie Johnson and reflecting on her years of service to the Meridian community.
The board also announced that service at LOVE’S Kitchen will be temporarily suspended as Johnson’s life is celebrated. According to the statement, the organization plans to reopen and continue the charitable mission Johnson worked to establish.

It is with heavy hearts that we pause to remember and honor the life of Fannie Johnson, Executive Director of LOVE’S Kitchen in Meridian, Mississippi.
Fannie was one of those special people whose presence made a difference simply because she cared. She did not just serve her community—she loved her community. Her heart was evident in the way she welcomed people, helped those in need, encouraged others, and gave of herself so generously.
Through her leadership at LOVE’S Kitchen, Fannie became a familiar and comforting presence to so many. For individuals and families facing difficult circumstances, she represented compassion, dignity, and hope. She understood that a meal could mean more than food—it could be an expression of love, a reminder that someone cared, and a moment of comfort during a difficult season.
Her impact cannot be measured by a title or a list of accomplishments. It can be measured by the lives she touched, the people she encouraged, the families she helped, and the countless acts of kindness that may never have been publicly recognized.
Fannie’s legacy is woven into the fabric of Meridian. It lives in the people she served, the relationships she built, and the example she set for others. She showed us that true leadership is not about being seen—it is about showing up, serving others, and making a difference wherever you can.
Today, we grieve because we will miss her. We will miss her presence, her compassion, her strength, her smile, and the way she made people feel cared for. But even as our hearts are heavy, we are also grateful.
Grateful that Meridian was blessed with her.

Grateful for every life she touched.
And grateful for the beautiful legacy she leaves behind.
Fannie may no longer be with us physically, but the love she poured into this community will continue to live on.

As a board, we have elected to temporarily suspend service as we celebrate Fannie’s life; however, we will reopen to continue the charitable legacy of Fannie’s mission at LOVE’s Kitchen that she worked so hard to establish.
