In the early hours of Tuesday morning, the Jones County Sheriff’s Department (JCSD) responded to a collision between a vehicle and a 7-foot alligator on Highway 84 East near Eastview Drive.
The crash occurred around 3:04 a.m., involving a Chevrolet Cobalt traveling in the eastbound lanes. JCSD Sergeant Jeff Monk arrived on scene to find the alligator deceased at the edge of the roadway and the vehicle disabled due to damage from the impact.

The driver, a 20-year-old woman, was not injured in the crash. However, her vehicle sustained significant damage and had to be towed.
The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWF&P) was notified and responded to document and investigate the incident. JCSD officials shared a photo of their patrol vehicle parked beside the deceased alligator to provide a size comparison of the reptile.
Authorities remind drivers to remain cautious and alert, especially during nighttime hours, as wildlife activity often increases along roadways.
