SENATOBIA — Body camera footage shows that the vehicle carrying Kohen Wiley on the day he was shot in the parking lot of the Senatobia Walmart hit at least two law enforcement officers in the process of trying to get away.

The Department of Public Safety released a characteristically vague release about the shooting, saying the vehicle had driven toward officers and almost hit one, but the video itself tells a vastly different story.

Three body camera recordings and two Walmart security recordings that were obtained by Darkhorse Press show a security guard talking to Vellesiya Wiley and another woman who ended up being the driver of the car at the door of the store. As they leave, they break into a run toward their car.

At that point the security guard runs to the security station where officers are reviewing video of the store after a complaint of “a pervert,” which was unrelated to the incident. When the security guard says the women are running, both Tate County deputies and Senatobia police officers run to the parking lot.

The video, from multiple angles, shows officers running out and surrounding the front of the vehicle, ordering the driver to stop. She pulled forward slightly and then backed up, at which point her vehicle hit a sheriff’s deputy and he appears to be injured, limping after the contact was made.

Making almost a full circle, the vehicle hit another vehicle parked in the parking lot, and then as officers fanned out around the front of the vehicle, shouting orders to stop, which continued from multiple officers throughout the video.

The vehicle accelerates forward through the officers, appearing to make contact with Officer Hunter Foster, and shots can be heard throughout this part of the video. The vehicle still did not stop, and you can hear officers yelling, “Stop the car, stop the car right now” even as it drove off, then they ran to try to head it off again.

A body camera video from a medical facility afterwards shows an officer talking to Foster.

“I didn’t even see a f*ing baby in her lap,” Foster said.

“Nobody knew the baby was there,” the other officer said. “All I saw was two females in the car.”

“That’s all I saw,” Foster said.

Darkhorse Press has not yet obtained Foster’s body camera footage.
